Bellingen’s Premier Summer School, Camp Creative

Bellingen’s premier summer school, Camp Creative, has reached record numbers this year, with over 1,200 people participating in the five-day event.

Now in its 26th year, Camp Creative has provided the environment for thousands of creative spirits to grow.
Each January, families, groups of friends and individuals flock to the extraordinarily beautiful town of Bellingen to meet like-minded people in a relaxed environment, where they can gain confidence and explore their creativity.

This year’s camp has attracted families from as far away as Switzerland, Canada, France and Korea. Camp Creative’s President, Peter Nance, describes this year’s line up as the most comprehensive in the Camp’s history.

“The aim is to provide something for all, both for families and for individuals. The five- day package is designed to mix learning with entertainment, with the emphasis on fun and in an environment of shared encouragement.

With 26 years of experience behind us, we have seen what works and have developed our programs around participants’ needs and requests. We want everyone to leave at the end of the 5 days with a sense of achievement and the resolve to continue with their creative pursuits.” With over 60 courses covering a wide range of interests, it has once again drawn some of our creative world’s top talents to tutor and mentor their arts and crafts.

For most people, it is an opportunity to try something completely different, and it can be life-changing. In the relaxed Camp environment, people gain confidence in skills they’ve never before explored. The tutors give generously of their time and experience to provide the means to pursue or find a new passion.

Lucky for late bookers, there are still a few places available in some of the dance, drama and kids courses.
The camp is available to people of all ages and will be held January 9 to 13.
Exclusive to ‘Campers’ …
This year’s special events for participants include a Celebrity Concert featuring Camp Creative Patron David Helfgott, with tutors Mark Walton and Sunday Lucia, David Goodwin and up and coming local talents, Liam Mallinson and Luara Karlson-Carp.

The Grand Finale Concert on Friday evening is a spectacular conclusion, showcasing the achievements and diversity of the performing arts groups from the camp.
Open to the public

You don’t have to be participating in Camp Creative to be part of Thursday’s Street Party. It is a ‘not to be missed’ event where Bellingen comes alive with music, singing, dancing and eating. And if you’re wondering if Camp Creative is right for you in 2013, from noon Friday you have the opportunity to wander around the campus, where the creative achievements of the week are on display. You can also watch the Young People’s Concert, where the performances include Spaghetti Circus, drama and singing.

The easy way to see what’s on offer is to go to www.campcreative.com.au, where you’ll find detailed information on all courses and tutors and events.
