Mother’s Day

It’s the question that plagues us every year … when is Mother’s Day? This year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 9 May so get prepared and treat your mummy dearest to a Mother’s Day to trump the rest.

Since you could walk and talk you have watched your mum wash and iron your clothes and keep your school uniform sparkling and spotless, without a single crease. Most of you were delivered to and from the school gate, often chauffeured around to your after school piano lessons and weekend soccer matches.

Whenever you had the slightest inkling to cry on someone’s shoulder, your mum was the one giving you comfort and patiently listening to all your heartaches and complaining.
The culinary masterpieces, which you consumed since you were old enough to digest, were cooked day in and day out by your beloved mother. Just think of the hundreds of incredible delights she prepared for you and the tasty lunchbox treats she surprised you with.
Its fair to say, a mother’s love is unrivalled. In 2010, forget the choccies (did that last year), or the customary bunch of tulips (again!), spoil your mum with a twist this Mother’s Day.
> For the Eco Mum: Ranging from practical and inexpensive to unique and luxurious, eco-friendly gifts are an opportunity to share the benefits of sustainable living with the dearest person on earth.
Biodegradable soy candles are great options as they don’t give off toxins like paraffin candles, making them much healthier for the people breathing in their non-toxic scents. Check out locally owned Evali Creations (evalicreations.com.au) who specialise in luxurious organic soy candles. My fave – the delectable glass aromatherapy candle.
For more info on where you can pick these up contact Evonne on 0428 156 394.
> The Stylish Mum: Why not treat your mum to something a little different than a stock-standard shopping spree. Personal styling sessions are a great way to encourage inner confidence and development.
CM Style, a locally established business operating nationally, specialises in corporate styling and style coaching. Embracing a holistic approach, this is a stellar option for the mother looking for a re-style or building a new beginning. Check your mum into a one on one consultation with a qualified style coach.
For further details phone Carol on 0417 448 515.
> The New Mum: Having a new baby on the scene can be challenging, as many will know. Busily coping with the huge adjustment means new mums often don’t have a lot of time for themselves.
Surprise a yummy mummy this Mother’s Day with anything from a weekend away at a quaint B&B to a luxurious escape to a day spa for hours of indulgence.
Port Macquarie Day Spa gets my vote! Give them a buzz on 6584 2255.
> The Sporty Mum: The Mother’s Day Classic was established in 1998 to raise funds and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Starting in Sydney’s Domain, the fun run is a great way to get involved in a charity event while keeping super fit.
If the Classic is not for you, another fitness option is personal training sessions. Life Express offers one on one training sessions with a qualified personal trainer in a low-key comfortable environment … sans the uncomfortable procession of overly-buff gym junkies.
For more info call Gavin on 6584 1122 (Note: They currently offer a 12 week challenge program, guaranteed to have mum donning that bikini by the summer months!)
Call it cliché, however most mums will be quick to tell you it’s the little things that make all the difference. From picking up the slack with the general household duties to creating a taste sensation – these little effort-free gestures go a long way to impress.
In all those difficult undecided moments life presented, when you needed someone who could make you see reason, it was surely your mother who lent you patient ears and offered you her worldly advice.
In the broader sense of the term, Mother’s Day is a day to be grateful for being blessed with an angel in the form of Mother.
