Jumbos Playland

Jumbos Playland is one of the few places in Port where you can enjoy a delicious meal and watch your kids play in a safe environment.

The main attraction at Jumbos for the kids is the huge, six metre high climbing frame, with all of its slides and swings and gizmos, together with the six and a half metre high bouncy slide. Jumbo’s keep the toddlers separate and give them a big ball pit to play in, a push car track and a tiny town with a variety of shops and activities.

For the mothers and carers they have a 120 seat café, baby change facilities, bottle & baby food warming facilities, and of course are breastfeeding friendly.

In the cafe the wonderful chef Jodie cooks all meals on site, including ready-made snacks and sweets, as well as all day brekkie, sandwiches and hot food made to order from our menu. All orders can be phoned through ready for takeaway or you can take your lunch home after your children have been playing all morning.

The café staff have completed Dane’s Gourmet Barista Course and hold certificates in safe food handling. Jumbos guarantee the coffee is delicious, because they use only Dane’s best brand ingredients.

During school term Jumbos offers enjoyable playgroups during the week for mums, dads, grandparents or caregivers with their children. For just the admission price, children and parents receive structured activities, fruit to eat and unlimited time on the playland.

Each day of the week Jumbos have a different themed playgroup: Monday is Music & Dance, Tuesday is Fairy and Pirate Fun, Wednesday is Crazy Craft, and Thursday is Jumbo Gym. Further details about all the playgroups can be found on the website or drop in and have a chat to the girls.

During the school holidays Janice, the playgroup co-ordinator has created a jam-packed schedule, catering to all age groups. For the littlies, they have Movement & Dance Fun as well as Superhero fun for Under 6s with special guest, Batwoman.

The 6 to 10 years won’t miss out with High School Musical Cheerleading workshops and ‘Grossed Out’ Science.

There is also be face painting and balloon sculpting for everyone. A timetable can be downloaded on the website, or pick up a brochure at Jumbos.

Went to jumbo’s today with 2x 10yr old & 1x 12yr old, couldn’t believe it!  They would not let the 12yr old play on the equipment.  10yrs is the cut off.  How ridiculous!  He had to sit and watch, while the others played including cousins 1yr old & 3yr old.  Mind you, there were definately older children playing (as they were known from there school) sometimes it doesn’t pay to tell the truth.  If it comes down to weight etc on the equipment, then they should have scales there as he weighs less than the 10yr old.
Socks were a MUST at $3.00 a hit…had to buy 2 pairs.  One of the children has special needs and requires assistance, the 12yr old was assisting him and got questioned several times by the staff, and told he could not get on the equipment.
They were extremely unfriendly and at times hostile, we felt like we were being watched and victimised.  There was 9 of us all together, we brought morning tea, drinks & lunches from the canteen etc & overall spent ALOT of money there.
Would not recommend anyone going there, as we will not be returning and word of mouth goes along way!

I found the staff at Jumbo’s quite rude and unfriendly towards adults and children. Not very appropriate for a “kid friendly” place. There was no happy friendly greeting at the door, nor a pleasant thanks for coming/hope to see you again when we left.
It felt as though they pick certain groups of people out (us being one of those) and watched every move you make and pounce on you when they can. It started as soon as we sat down…..while I was taking the kids shoes off a staff member came over and abruptly asked if they had socks. As they didn’t I was told I had to buy some, $3.00 a pair, or the kids could not play. Yet there were plenty of other kids not wearing socks and they were not pulled up.I am sitting here with the flyer advertisement for this place and nowhere on it does it say socks are compulsory!
Then there was the food…..again on the brochure it does not say you can’t pack you own snacks/lunch for kids, but when you get there signs are at the door saying you can’t take in your own food. We did the right thing and purchased their food and drinks (we were too worried about bringing out our own food incase we were chastised again), but at the table next to us people opened up lunch boxes filled with food for their kids and brought in their own drinks. Not one staff member came over and told them they could not do that! I had my parents with me to help out with the kids (I have an 18mths and 3&1/2), so with entry, socks, coffee’s and lunch I spent $90! Not a cheap or pleasant experience. We have family living in Port and visit here quite a lot but I won’t be taking my kids back there!

Jumbos. This is going to be a real white elephant in Port if they do not improve there game. We go to a lot of these places with our grandkids, in Sydney including Wigglesworld and to centres in Geelong and they are OUTSTANDING. Jumbos what a joke, overpriced food, cold coffee, stale muffins, which i was told fresh today! No more Jumbos for me or my family. I work in the retail business and you can be assured I will spread the word.  Never in my life have I seen such rude and unfriendly staff. WE WILL CERTAINLY NOT BE RETURNING.!! PS: If you do intend to go take plenty of money and do not forget your socks!!

Being a new mother, I have several contacts with the various circles in PMQ.  I have been sure to let them know about our disturbing experience.
